Each month, I look forward to meeting with Rachel in her home. At first, we sit together for a few minutes in silence. Often, she asks for divine presence to join us in the space. This sweet invitation reminds me that this is something I can bring into my day-to-day life. I find myself easily sharing with Rachel the stories of my life-current challenges, joys, sorrows, sometimes wandering into the past--memories of my husband, gone now for almost three years, also of my parents and siblings, my childhood, my friends. I realize that it's as if I am seeing my life through a kaleidoscope and Rachel is right there with me, listening, hearing, bearing witness as I try to sort it out: Who Am I? Really? This time does not feel self-indulgent, it feels necessary and like a gift to myself that I never before allowed. When the hour is up, there is time for just the right poem or reading, and always a blessing, and for the thread of my musings to be distilled seemingly effortlessly, then honored and named. I am reminded of Rachel's other super power as a gifted chaplain, who has the language, the experience as well as the innate spiritual essence to make it all feel both real and ethereal at the same time. I am grateful to Rachel for giving of herself for the benefit of others and it is a blessing to me to be connected to her. It allows me to show up with others in a new way.

I treasure my spiritual direction time every month with Rachel. As a working parent I experience stress, and our time together feels like a welcome reprieve. I’m able to take a break, to check in with myself, and feel spiritual support from Rachel, who meets me where I’m at that day. Rachel’s spiritual direction has helped me cope with work stress and cultivate more peace in my life. She’s non-judgmental, warm, and skilled with offering spiritual support.
